Can This Be True?

What if the Christmas story isn’t as certain and serene as we imagine—but full of questions, confusion, and holy wonder? At Christmas, many of us find ourselves wondering if God really is with us—here, now, in our own world of fear and longing. In this sermon series, we’ll revisit the familiar story through the eyes of those who wrestled to believe it. Mary, troubled by the angel’s greeting, asks how this could possibly be. Joseph struggles to trust what doesn’t make sense. The shepherds hear news of peace and joy, yet we look around at a world still aching for both. This Advent, we’ll dare to ask the question that echoes through every heart: Can this be true? And in the asking, we may discover that doubt is not the end of faith, but the doorway through which hope and love are born anew.
